FeaturedCommentsDude, simply put, I am floored at the level of your skill!! I've seen good ink jobs before, yours are damn good but what really blew me away is your digital paintings!!! The shot of Dany from Game of Thrones and Rocky are easily my favorites! Do you have any tutorials on getting skin that good? I've tried it before - on a less than stellar computer - but it never turned out even half as good...
Mostly it is the brushes I use. I've tried A LOT of different ones and have finally narrowed it down to certain ones I use for certain things. Most all of them are downloaded from the DA community. I'm at work right now so I can't share the links at this moment. What are you using to paint also. I'm using Photoshop's mixer brush. I could never paint the way I wanted until they introduced that tool in CS5 because I could never get the type of blend I was looking for.
A lot of people have been asking for a tutorial so I may have to look into doing one. I've never done one so I'm not sure how well it will turn out. Oh, and thanks for liking Rocky as one of your favs. It's one of my least popular ones because it isn't a half naked girl, lol. But COME ON! It's Rocky!!! You don't get better than Rocky. Well said man, "It's Rocky" says it all. Alot of people today have forgotten the days of action heroes when the cast of the Expendables were kicking ass and saying to hell with names. Rocky was at the forefront as far as I'm concerned. He may not have been killing them but he beat them to a bloody pulp with nothing but guts, strength and an iron clad will to go on. And to top it off...he did it front of everyone!
I can definitely say that my brush library is significantly lacking. I had a few with CS4 but lost them with I transfered to CS5 for some reason. Either way, even with the brushes I have yet to figure out how to use them properly. I watched a great video on blending the skin tones together but as it did so it all added a texture to the skin giving it a more realistic look. I think that may have been a little complex for me at my level. I haven't tried the mixer brush at all yet...I'll have to try that soon. I'm getting a new iMac with ALOT more RAM than my previous computer so hopefully that will really help out. I think my best work would have to be of a DC Comic character named Miss Martian. I didn't have the memory to fully blend her skin but it turned out well regardless. I'd definitley like to finish that soon... Anyway, I very much look forward to your tutorial if you make one. I've heard that video tutorials are the easiest because you can just talk and work at the same time rather than recount your steps in writing. Its a far cry beneath your own skills but I'd be very interested to hear your opinion on that piece. Its from a few years ago so I also included a link to my most recent of the same character. :thumb251470001: :thumb294837857: Much like everyone else I think the bird is amazing. I would use more shades of colors on Miss Martian herself. I might suggest using the dodge/burn tool to do this. It's a nice quick way of adding shades of color. After that I would blend them with the mixer brush. If your not comfortable with it yet then try the smudge tool.
If using the mixer brush I would actually suggest using that cloud brush for the skin as well. It sounds strange but up until recently I was using a cloud brush for my skin textures. Its a great texture when using very wet mixing brush. For sharper edges just go very small with it. I've been toying with the idea of leaving some lines in with some paintings I've been working on but I haven't been happy with it. I notice you have lines in yours as well. I think it works for this one but if you want to go more realistic then I would suggest using them to blend into the skin to define the edges. I love the shades of color in the first Miss Martin one. They could just use some blending is all. The colors are very sharp. My Katherine Heigl painting is the same way and its one of my least favorites. But it also looks like a scene that takes place in a darker scene so some harsher lines are more appropriate for that type of setting. Overall I would say a very good job. Especially considering its not done with the mixer brush. Trust me, I wouldn't be able to do this if I had to use the normal brush. I tried painting with it before but was never happy with them. Thank you again for sharing! Every time I visit your site I find new and extremely cool things
Thank you very much. That's an unbelievably nice comment. I'm glad I can bring you different things to like. Thanks again for being one of my long time watchers as well. You were one of my first.
thanks very much, I hadn't realized you had just joined back them. Once again thanks for sharing
